Selected from a record-breaking 500 entries from around the world, the beloved story by Diana Wynne Jones is illustrated by Folio’s 2019 Book Illustration Competition winner.
Follow Sophie, wizard Howl and fire demon Calcifer’s adventures in the land of Ingary, where such things as seven-league boots and cloaks of invisibility really exist…
Although it can be read as a stand-alone, Howl’s Moving Castle is the first book of a trilogy, followed by Castle in the Air and House of Many Ways.

To mark Folio’s 75th anniversary, Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story is published as a magical new edition, with 33 integrated illustrations and 26 decorative drop caps, 8 full-page colour illustrations including a double-page spread, printed book edge and more.
In many ways a classic fantasy, influenced by Greek myths and traditional fairy tales, The Neverending Story is also a powerful allegory on the primacy of reading and the imagination. That an unassuming boy can harness the power of words to save a magical kingdom is the ultimate literary gift, and perhaps why this incredible book within a book continues to have such a profound impression on readers of all ages.
This spectacular edition can be purchased here, and signed and numbered prints from the book are available in my shop.

For this edition, we integrated some of the illustrations and designs from the original Folio, with work I had produced in 2019. The new work I created for this limited edition is:
- Binding and covers: quarter-bound in leather with art silk sides printed, hand-lettering and blocked with 2 foils
- endpapers and book edges printed in metallic ink, based on my own marbling experiments.
- Page border designs for the chapter heads and text pages, in two ink colours. Hand-lettered chapter titles.
- 2 additional illustrations (8 in total), hand-tipped onto the page within a decorative border
- Limitation label signed by Marie-Alice Harel and blocked
- Map of Ingary and map case with a design of the magical door knob
- Clamshell box with design inside and out and a die-cut opening
This book was entirely produced in the UK: printed by Gomer Press in Wales and hand-bound by Smith Settle in Yorkshire
Selected illustrations from this book are available as limited edition fine art print in my shop.
I made a post on Minima Insula to show some of the process and thoughts that went into this book. Read it here.
